WELCOME TO THE THIRD GRADE Class Web Page!
I am enthusiastic and honored to be the third-grade teacher at St. Athanasius Catholic Academy.
I aim for each student to be the best that they can be by providing them with diverse and exciting learning opportunities, modeling determination, hard work, compassion, kindness, guidance, prayer, and respect for all. My students become my children and the class becomes a family of God! I will concentrate on creating a positive atmosphere and providing encouragement and support to all. I look forward to a productive school year filled with many diverse learning experiences and endless opportunities for personal, academic, and spiritual growth. Together and with God’s blessings, we will become a united class family.
To the parents, I say THANK YOU for choosing St. Athanasius Catholic Academy and for valuing the importance of raising your children in our faith. I appreciate and understand your sacrifices, and I thank you for your support. Together, we will work as a team to provide your child with the support and encouragement needed to succeed. I look forward to a memorable, fun-filled school year that will include lots of learning, lots of laughs, and many accomplishments!

Mrs. Bruno’s 3rd Grade Supply List and Summer Assignments
for the 2023- 2024 School Year
Hello to my amazing future 3rd Graders and families. Below is the list of school, classroom, and home supplies that will be needed. Please try your best to have all supplies by the end of the first week of school come September. Below are also details about the summer assignment. Please plan accordingly so that you may have a productive and enjoyable summer. I look forward to being your teacher and to creating a fun-filled year of memorable learning experiences.
3rd Grade Supply List: 2023-2024
Student Supply List:
10 – composition notebooks (100 pages) each with subject and name. Each notebook must be labeled with name and subject: Social Studies, ELA/Reading, Religion, Spelling/Vocabulary, Writing/Journal, Math, Science, Art, and Italian. Keep a few extra notebooks at home in case you need a new one during the year.
2 – folders labeled, preferably plastic - labeled: Homework- on the right side and Notices on the left side, and another folder for Classwork labeled in progress on the right and completed on the left side ).
2- boxes of No. 2 wooden pencils.****5 sharpened pencils MUST be provided daily***NO MECHANICAL pencils permitted.
1- pencil sharpener
1 – box of crayons (24 pack).
1 – box of washable thin markers and colored pencils.
1 – pair of scissors for a child.
3 – glue sticks.
1 – pencil case must be soft
2 – Independent Chapter Reading Books to be left in their desks at all times.
1 – pocket dictionary/thesaurus to be with you at all times.
2 – packages of loose leaf paper (wide ruled with margin)
1 - ream of white copy/printing paper
1 – pack of highlighters multi-colored
1 pack of construction paper
4 – large stretch book covers for textbooks.
2 – Packages of index cards (3 x 5)
1- Index card holder
2 – Packages of Post-it notes.
1 – Package of black dry-erase markers.
1 – Package of multicolored dry-erase markers.
1- ART box- SMALL clear shoebox for Art class- as per Art teacher: 1 pack of 12 large Markers- classic colors,1 box of 24 crayons, 2 glue sticks, 1 school liquid glue, 1 tray of watercolor paint.
Classroom Supplies:
2 – boxes of tissues
2 – large hand sanitizers
2 – rolls of paper towels
2 – Packages of baby wipes
2 – Packages of Clorox wipes.
2 boxes gallon-size Ziplock bags
1 box sandwich-size Ziploc bags
1 ream of white copy/printing paper
1 – packages of black Expo dry-erase markers.
1 – packages of multicolor Expo dry-erase markers
1 - a bottle of Lysol spray
Wish List: HP 61 black ink and/or colored ink cartridge for class printer (optional).
1 pair of over-the-head- headphones (put in a plastic bag and label with your name on it and grade) These headphones will be kept in school at all times and not brought home.
Home Supplies to keep at home:
1 package of letter-sized envelopes
2 – rolls of clear contact paper to cover soft workbooks only, all workbooks must be covered by the first week of school as they are brought home and returned the next day.

Remember you can always buy extra supplies and store them for later use in the year if they may be needed.
Incoming 3rd-Grade Students
Summer Book Report Assignment Guidelines
Please choose 1 chapter book from this list to read and do a complete book report following the guidelines below.
BOOKS FOR BOOK REPORT:
1. Magic Tree House, by Mary Pope Osborne. Any book from this series.
2. A to Z Mysteries, by Ron Roy. Any book from this series.
3. I Survived series by Lauren Tarshis. Any book from this series.
4. Junie B. Jones series by Barbara Park. Any book from this series.
Guidelines for Book Report:
Must Make A Cover: On colored construction paper. Include the title, author, your name, and grade. Draw and color an original and colorful picture for your cover on construction paper. Be creative and neat.
1st page: Write the title, author, genre, setting, and main characters.
2nd page: Pick a main character and write about them in paragraph form. Give details about their personalities, how they’ve changed from the beginning, middle, and end of the story, and their actions in the plot.
3rd page: Write a complete summary of the story in paragraph form using sequencing of events.
4th page: In paragraph form write about something new you learned from the book or the most interesting part if the genre is fiction.
5th page: Pick five new vocabulary words from your book, and define and write an original sentence for each one.
6th page- Book Review:- Question 1:Would you recommend this book to your classmates? Why or why not? Question 2: Would you read another book by this author? Explain why or why not?
Please note that this assignment should be the STUDENT’S best work, this will count as their first ELA grade.
