St. Athanasius Learning Center  Where Great Things Happen!

My name is Mrs. Gina Auricchio and I am the Learning Center Coordinator.  The Learning Center is a unique, full-time program offered at St. Athanasius Catholic Academy that accommodates the needs of different types of learners.  The Learning Center provides academic intervention services to students who qualify. There are Title 1 Services available for students who are eligible in Math, Reading, and ESL.  In addition, there are SETSS providers who provide Special Education Teacher Support Services for students with IESP’s as well as a full-time Speech/Language Teacher at our academy. In addition, we offer Occupational Therapy and Mandated Counseling for students who are eligible. The Learning Center provides learning opportunities in a small group setting and promotes creative learning experiences by offering different modalities of instruction.  If you would like to learn more about the support services we offer, please contact me at the school at (718) 236-4791.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome back!  Hopefully, you had a restful and safe summer.  As the long summer days come to an end, I look forward to welcoming you back to another wonderful school year.  I am extremely excited to begin another year as the Learning Center Coordinator of St. Athanasius Catholic Academy and work with your children.  This will be my 14th year teaching at St. Athanasius and my goal is to work closely with your child, their teacher, and you the parents to optimize your child’s educational achievement.

The Learning Center is a unique, full-time program offered at St. Athanasius Catholic Academy that accommodates the needs of different types of learners.  The Learning Center provides academic intervention services for students who qualify.  We have Title 1 Services available for students who are eligible in Math, Reading, and ESL.  In addition, there are SETSS providers who provide Special Education Teacher Support Services for students with IESPs as well as a full-time Speech/Language Teacher at our academy. We also have Occupational Therapy this year at the school to provide OT services to those students who are eligible.  The Learning Center provides learning opportunities in a small group setting and promotes creative learning experiences by offering different modalities of instruction.

As the Learning Center Coordinator, I work closely with students who need extra help or reinforcement in certain subject areas.   In addition, I work with students who have IESPs to ensure the modifications and accommodations they are entitled to are received.  I advocate and work as the liaison with the Department of Education to ensure all paperwork is up to date, and attend annual IESP phone conferences so that your child receives the recommended services.

In order to accommodate the services recommended on the IESP, it is necessary that parents provide me with copies of the child’s IESP, SETSS (P4 Form), and/or any other important paperwork so that your child’s needs can be addressed.  It is important that all IESP files are kept up-to-date with the most current information.

I gladly invite parents who are new to the Academy and returning parents who may have concerns about their child or need additional information on academic intervention services to speak with me so we can discuss any concerns you may have.  If you have a child attending nursery or prekindergarten who received Early Intervention Services, I encourage you to speak with me.  I will be available if you would like to speak with me on Parent/Teacher Night which will be on September 14th and 7:00 PM.

I can be reached via email or by contacting the school office at (718) 236-4791 and I will make arrangements to discuss your concerns.  Please know that your child’s education is extremely important and if we work together as a team with your child’s best interest in mind, we can accomplish great things.

I would like to thank you for choosing St. Athanasius Catholic Academy as we strive to provide quality education with a strong Catholic Identity.

I am looking forward to a great school year.

Mrs. Gina Auricchio
Learning Center Coordinator/Special Education Teacher

The primary purpose of the Learning Center is to reinforce, review and practice basic reading/writing and math skills in a small group setting using a multi-sensory, hands-on approach to learning.  In addition, the Learning Center can accommodate the needs of students with IESPs on an individualized basis provided the academy can offer equitable services.

While attending the Learning Center, students will realize through positive reinforcement and hard work that it is important to believe that they have the ability to learn and achieve their goals.  This experience will enable students to develop self-confidence so they will be able to do the best they can to succeed.
