Dear Parents/Guardians,
St. Athanasius Catholic Academy is committed to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and caring environment where every student can thrive and achieve success. Small-group instruction is incorporated into daily lessons, and through the use of interactive technology and hands-on learning resources, students are provided with opportunities to reach their full potential.
The Learning Center is a unique, full-time program offered at St. Athanasius Catholic Academy that is designed to meet the diverse needs of our learners. The Learning Center provides academic intervention services for students who qualify. We offer Title I services in Reading, Mathematics, and English Language Learning (ELL) for eligible students. In addition, our academy has SETSS (Special Education Teacher Support Services) providers who support students with Individualized Education Services Programs (IESPs), as well as a full-time Speech and Language Teacher. Occupational Therapy (OT) services are also provided on campus for eligible students. Mandated counseling services and a licensed social worker from PDHP are available to support students' social and emotional well-being.
The Learning Center provides students with opportunities to learn in small-group settings while promoting success through a variety of instructional approaches and learning modalities. Our SETSS teachers collaborate closely with classroom teachers to implement best practices and ensure that all students receive the support they need.
SETSS teachers work closely with students who require additional support or reinforcement in specific subject areas. They also work with students who have IESPs to ensure they receive the accommodations and modifications outlined in their plans. Our Special Education Point Representative serves as an advocate and liaison with the New York City Department of Education, ensuring that all required documentation is current and participating in annual IESP review meetings so that your child receives the recommended services.
To ensure that your child receives the services outlined in their IESP, we ask that parents provide the academy with copies of their child's current IESP, SETSS authorization (P4 Form), and any other relevant documentation. Keeping these records up to date allows us to provide appropriate support as quickly and effectively as possible.
I warmly invite both new and returning families to contact me if you have concerns about your child's academic progress or would like additional information regarding academic intervention or special education services. If your child is entering Nursery or Pre-K and previously received Early Intervention Services, I also encourage you to reach out so we can discuss the supports that may be available.
I will be available to meet with families during Parent-Teacher Night on September 17 at 6:30 p.m. in the school auditorium. If you are unable to attend, you may contact me by email or through the school office at (718) 236-4791, and I will be happy to arrange a meeting at another convenient time.
Your child's education is extremely important to us. By working together as partners with your child's best interests at heart, we can help them reach their fullest potential.
Thank you for choosing St. Athanasius Catholic Academy. We are honored to partner with your family as we continue our mission of providing an excellent education rooted in a strong Catholic identity.
I look forward to working with you and your child and wish everyone a wonderful and successful school year.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Gina Auricchio

The primary purpose of the Learning Center is to reinforce, review and practice basic reading/writing and math skills in a small group setting using a multi-sensory, hands-on approach to learning. In addition, the Learning Center can accommodate the needs of students with IESPs on an individualized basis provided the academy can offer equitable services.
While attending the Learning Center, students will realize through positive reinforcement and hard work that it is important to believe that they have the ability to learn and achieve their goals. This experience will enable students to develop self-confidence so they will be able to do the best they can to succeed.
